Latest Reviews of Panhandle Auto Theft & Burglary Unit
This unit is currently under the leadership of an ineffective manager who employs micromanagement and engages in backstabbing behavior, making it extremely challenging to perform one’s duties effectively. The leadership treats individuals as if they are new recruits and lacks trust in their decisions. Without a change in leadership, this unit will continue to face significant challenges.
While the training provided was adequate, opportunities for obtaining valuable classes were limited due to a lack of a substantial training budget. My colleagues were exceptional, and some of the most skilled individuals I know are employed by this unit. The commander is highly critical of everyone, even for minor matters that one person can handle. The equipment used is outdated, including the unmarked vehicles. Additionally, officers are not provided with body cameras, rifles, tasers, or personal protective equipment, and they are responsible for purchasing their own weapons. Fortunately, I was able to secure body cameras from a Sheriff, but I have since been returned as I am no longer employed by the unit.
Overall, unless leadership undergoes a change, I cannot recommend working here. This is unfortunate because the unit has great potential to assist other agencies and make a significant positive impact on the community.
